It's Giving New Music is OTW! Cardi B Drops New Single, “Like What (Freestyle)” – MEFeater

Cardi B is seemingly back to releasing her solo music. On Feb. 28, 2024, the rapper announced her new single, “Like What (Freestyle).”
In 2023, Cardi had a successful year with her features on songs with Latto, Offset, Megan Thee Stallion, and FendiDa Rappa. “Like What” is her first solo single since she released “Up” in 2021.
Her new single hit streaming platforms on March 1, 2024, with an accompanying music video. Coincidentally, the end of the music video revealed that her estranged husband, Offset, directed it. According to Entertainment Tonight, the mother of two denies that they have rekindled their relationship.
Offset posted a story on Feb. 19, 2024, that seemingly encouraged his wife to release the music she has been working on. A few days later, she announced, “Like What.”
The end of the music video spilled even more tea, stating, “This is just the beginning… stay tuned.” Cardi B has not released a solo studio album since her Grammy-winning debut album, “Invasion of Privacy,” in April 2018. Fans are speculating that her next album is coming soon. In a 2023 interview on Hot 97’s “Ebro in the Morning,” the rapstress shared that the album is coming soon.
With no release date in sight, fans hope that “Like What” is a lead-up to an album announcement.
The “Like It” rapper utilized a popular song, and fans have mixed reactions. Sampling a lightly edited version of Missy Elliot’s “She’s a B-tch,” Cardi seemingly borrows Elliot’s flow.
Additionally, BIA posted a few subtweets regarding the song. The 32-year-old used the same Timbaland-produced beat for her song, “I’m That B-tch,” in 2023. Fans noticed something similar about the two songs. BIA did not comment, but left some emoji to express her distaste.

Cardi B immediately responded with a tweet, “B—–s make a fool of themselves every single time.” She also hints that she will be releasing another song soon.
Despite the drama with BIA, fans are still giving the song a chance. According to Chart Data, “Like What” entered the Top 2 on U.S. iTunes the day of its release. Music listeners also took to X to discuss their thoughts. Many thought that the song was good and authentic to the femcee. Others felt the song was lackluster and that enough effort wasn’t put into the song or its promo.
She shouldn’t have released this imma just say it. Lackluster song. An unoriginal beat. Horrible cover art. Just bad timing when there’s hella anticipation for her comeback. This wasn’t it lol https://t.co/LbAn6mNioK
Initially, fans took offense to her line, “Like a coach bag, baby, this ain’t what you want.” Many felt that it was a dig at the brand and those who purchase from Coach. The New York native later explained on an Instagram Live session that the bar referenced Cam’Ron’s “Hey Mama.” She later posted a TikTok that followed her as she bought a purse from Coach proving there was no bad blood between her and the leather goods brand.
