PINELLAS, Fla. (WWSB/Gray News) – When one Florida woman started planning her wedding, she decided to sell her Taylor Swift-signed guitar to pay for it, but Swift’s fans stepped in to help her keep it.
Self-proclaimed “Swiftie” Emily Harris’ prized possession is her guitar signed by none other than Taylor Swift. It was a Sweet 16 present from her father, WWSB reports.
“I pulled this out, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, it’s so pretty.’ Then, I realized it was signed… and tears, just immediate tears,” Harris said.
But with a wedding looming, Harris, now 30, needed money and planned to sell the guitar. Her father, understanding wedding costs, supported her decision and went on a “Swiftie” Facebook page to get tips on how to go about selling the guitar.
To their surprise, instead of tips or offers, the “Swifties” insisted Harris keep her coveted treasure. They asked her to start a GoFundMe, so they could donate to her wedding fund.
“The ‘Swifties’ jumped into action about it,” Harris said. “I definitely cried a couple times because it’s just one of those reminders there’s good in this world. There are true, genuine, good people.”
More than 370 people have donated nearly $8,000 for Harris’ wedding in the three weeks her GoFundMe has been active.
Harris’ wedding to her fiancé, Jake McDaniel, is planned for November, according to the fundraising page. They have been engaged since last April.
