Andy Reid hilariously addressed Travis Kelce‘s sideline outburst during the Super Bowl in February.
In the second quarter of the Kansas City Chiefs’ showdown with the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas, Kelce’s frustration reached a breaking point after getting subbed out of a close game. As a result, Kelce bumped Reid, knocking him off balance, and appeared to raise his voice at the coach.
While Kelce was criticized for the interaction, he and Reid appeared to laugh it off as they marched towards their third Super Bowl title in five years. On Thursday, Reid appeared on The Herd with Colin Cowherd and joked about what he would have done if he saw Kelce coming.
‘I didn’t see him coming, or I would have forearm ripped him,’ Reid said with a laugh. ‘You know, he got me.’
From there, Reid switched to a more serious tone, emphasizing Kelce’s passion, leadership, and importance to the team. Reid also mentioned how Kelce is like a son to him.

After the outburst, Kelce and Reid hugged it out as the Chiefs won their third title in five years
‘I love his passion,’ Reid said of the tight end. ‘He’s always telling me, ‘Fire me up!’ I’m hard on him: he’s like one of my kids.’
‘I try to stay on top of him and make sure that he’s right because he’s the personality of our team.’
The Chiefs have now won back-to-back titles with quarterback Patrick Mahomes leading the charge. But despite Mahomes’ talent and leadership, Reid stressed Kelce’s influence on the roster.
Additionally, he mentioned how those heated moments make the job exciting.
‘As great a lead Patrick is, everybody follows Kels,’ Reid told Cowherd. ‘When he’s fired up, everybody follows along with that.’
‘Do things go a little crazy – yeah. But that’s why the job’s so great. His job’s great, my job’s great. We’re not getting put in the back of a place card for arguing.’
