Cardi B was born in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, on October 11, 1992. Her real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar. She has a younger sister named Hennessy Carolina, born in 1995. In her youth, Almánzar was associated with the Bloods gang from the age of 16, although she has publicly stated that she does not endorse gang involvement. From 2015 to early 2017, the show chronicled her journey to pursue her music career, and she gained additional recognition with the release of her two mixtapes, Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1 (2016) and Vol. 2 (2017).

In 2018, Cardi B released her debut studio album, Invasion of Privacy, which debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. The album received widespread critical acclaim, and Cardi B made history by becoming the first and only solo female artist to win the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. Furthermore, the album was only the second female rap album ever nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys.

In early 2017, Cardi B commenced a romantic relationship with fellow rapper Offset. They announced their engagement on October 27, 2017. During her second appearance on Saturday Night Live on April 7, 2018, Cardi B disclosed her pregnancy, which had reached approximately six months (24 weeks) by that time.
