When it comes to her two young children, Cardi B seems to like to splurge. She recently revealed in an interview with The New York Times that she spent a whopping $20,000 on a playground for her two children, Kulture and Wave.
The New York Times has published a series of short pieces in celebration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, and in its “50 Rappers, 50 Stories” collection, Cardi B was featured.
Money. Money. Money.
The self-described Afro-Latina Bronx rapper also revealed how much money she was making after her initial success with her 2018 single “Bodak Yellow,” which topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart for three consecutive weeks. It was a cut on her debut CD, “Invasion of Privacy.”
“I went from $20,000 a show, and then after ‘Bodak Yellow,’ I went to 100. And then, like two, three months later, I went to 200, 300, 400, 500. Then in 2018, I was getting booked for like $700,000, $800,000. And then I went to millions. I haven’t put out an album in five years, and the numbers just keep going up,” Cardi B told The Times.
Cardi B’s net worth is now a reputed $80 million, double of what she was reportedly worth in 2021.
Toy Time
Her wealth has afforded her the luxury to splurge on her children. She told the media outlet that she spent $20,000 on a playground for her children.
“But it also do be the little things, right? I just bought this playground set for my kids, and it’s huge. It looks insane. And I spent in the 20 thousands for it,” she said. “Of course, it’s not my biggest purchase ever, but this is what I work hard for, for my kids. Overly spending on your kids doesn’t mean that you’re a great parent, but it makes you feel good. It makes you feel like that you’re living your childhood dream.”
Expensive Playthings
The $20K playground set is not unusual for hip-hop’s “It” couple, Cardi B and Offset. they have a history of buying lavish gifts for their kids. Cardi B gave Kulture Kiari a pink Hermès Birkin, which retails for $25,000, for her fifth birthday on July 10, Yahoo! Style reported.
“My baby is five… Happy birthday to my pretty princess,” the mom of two wrote on Instagram. “It’s beautiful seeing my girl grow yet makes me a [little] sad that my baby is not my little baby no more.”
The rapper’s splurging on her children has been met with pushback from some social users, to which Cardi B replied on Twitter, “Listen imma live my childhood dreams thru my kids,” as Billboard cited.
On her fourth birthday, Kulture was gifted $50,000 in cash, People Magazine reported.
The couple defends their choice of gifts and extravagant parties for the kids. For example, they recently pulled out all the stops for Kulture’s fifth birthday party. The SuperMario-themed party had different areas — a ball pit, slides, a bounce house, a ceramics-painting station, a backpack decorating station, People reported.
“We want to have a good time and bring our family together,” Offset explained to Billboard. “We travel a lot, we be gone a lot, so we bring our family together, make it a big celebration for the kid.”
Cardi B agreed on Twitter, Billboard cited, saying, “I know I can be a little extra when it comes to my kids,” she wrote. “But I ain’t really had s–t growing up soooo yea imma ball.”
