Joker, will you be my Valentine? “Hoping your day is full of love,” wrote Joker 2 director Todd Phillips on Instagram, alongside new images of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in the upcoming sequel.
In one photo, Joaquin Phoenix is seen in his familiar burgundy suit and Joker clown makeup standing next to Lady Gaga in a floral blouse. The two sport matching blue eye makeup.
In the next, the unhinged duo are seen rubbing noses and making eyes at each other in a black and white close-up shot. Phoenix pokes his head through a window, or perhaps a jail cell?
The final new image sees Joker and Harley Quinn dancing on a rooftop in Gotham City, again in black and white, but this time in a wide shot. Phoenix dons a black tuxedo while Lady Gaga wears a long white evening gown. The pair embrace and gaze at each other.
Joker: Folie à Deux is said to be a musical and will be a follow-up to Phillips’ 2019 film Joker, which starred Phoenix and for which he won an Oscar. Lady Gaga joins the cast in the role of Harley Quinn.
Phillips will direct from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver. The title of the sequel is a reference to a medical term for a mental disorder that affects two or more individuals. As noted in Phillips’ new Instagram post, the film will be released Oct. 4.
