Lady Gaga is expected to be back on screens after landing the leading role in Ridley Scott’s new film, Gucci.
It’s been confirmed that Gaga will star alongside Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Adam Driver and Jared Leto—the latter who just so happens to be a Gucci muse.
The movie will focus on Patrizia Reggiani, an Italian socialite and ex-wife of Mauricio Gucci, who was convicted of organising his assassination.
But what exactly is the full story? We take a look at the wild true story.
Born in 1948 in Vignola, Italy, Patrizia Reggian met and married Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of Gucci founder Giuccio Gucci, in 1973.
The pair went on to have two daughters together, Allegra and Alessandra, before Gucci left Reggiani for a younger woman in 1985 after 12 years of marriage.
According to reports, the heir simply told Reggiani that he was going on a short business trip and never returned. They were officially divorced by 1991, with a $700,000 AUD approx. in annual alimony agreed upon.
In 1992 the mother-of-two was diagnosed with a brain tumour, which was successfully removed without any reported side effects.
But things took a turn for the worst on March 27, 1995 when Maurizio Gucci was murdered.
Almost two years later in 1997, Reggiani was arrested for arranging the killing and was subsequently charged for the organised murder and sentenced to 29 years after a shocking trial that caught the attention of the world.
She became known as the ‘Black Widow’ and made headlines again when she opted out of an open prison situation due to a refusal to work, famously stating “I’ve never worked in my life and I’m certainly not going to start now”.
In 2016, she was released on good behaviour after serving a total of 18 years in prison. Post-release she was awarded an annuity of $1.65 million AUD from her ex-husband’s estate.
The film adaption has been written by Roberto Bentivegna and is based on the the book, The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden.
Gucci is currently set for a November, 2021 release.
