Travis Kelce is one of the coolest customers on the field, but the Kansas City Chiefs ace has not always been known for his composure and maturity.
Kelce, 34, has been projected into an even brighter spotlight ever since he started dating the pop colossus Taylor Swift. While he has hardly flown under the radar at last year's Super Bowl winners, he has been under the microscope even further as a result of the new fans he has acquired from Swfit's humongous reach.
Not that it has been affecting him. He was instrumental in the Chiefs' 27-24 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, finishing the game with 75 yards and two touchdowns. Yet his former mentor and coach Jason Avant revealed he used to be a challenging player to work with.

While speaking on behalf of Action Network, Avant said: "Travis Kelce is a perfectionist. I remember when coach Andy Reid took me there to help Kelce develop into a professional because he had a lot of immaturities coming out of college. He had a lot of issues and it was my job to help.
"He took that workmanlike approach because I wasn't a guy who was ultra talented, but I would stay after practicing my catches. People asked me, how do you catch the ball so much?

"Then we had a playoff game and all of them froze up because they have never been in that moment, and the coach recognised that the only person he could trust in this situation was me. We only lost to the Patriots by a very narrow margin, but he came to me and said now I understand why Coach Reid had you here, and that's the training. I believe Kelce has that, he's a professional."
During his younger days, Kelce was also reprimanded by his coaches for smoking weed and other immature behaviours. However, it proved to be a wake up call for the Chiefs' tight end.
"Travis Kelce was getting suspended and kicked off the team for immature things, weed and other stuff like that. Just being young, basically," Avant added. "He stopped after joining the Chiefs, but now it's legal so it wouldn't matter now if he stopped it or not!
"Jason Kelce went to Coach Reid because Coach Reid drafted Kelce, and he went to Reid and said if you draft him, he won't be a problem for you. Travis became a pro and realised he had to take this seriously and he's been doing that ever since.
"It's not just me when it comes to mentoring, they have to have the ability to want to do it. I told a bunch of other guys but they went down the wrong path instead.
"It's not that I did something, it's more that some guys see it, you just have to convince them that they have talent and they can have a better future going down this path than the other path."
