They've Broken Up Twice, But Do Cardi B And Offset Have A Prenup? – TheThings

Cardi B might have to pay up if her relationship to Offset doesn’t last.
Offset and Cardi B are one celebrity couple that constantly keeps fans on their toes. Between a surprise marriage, two high-profile pregnancies, and multiple break-ups, the pair have been through a lot in their five years of marriage. And there were several times when it appeared Offset and Cardi’s relationship may not work out. They’ve been close to divorce on numerous occasions yet have always managed to reconcile.
But with hundreds of millions between them, this has caused speculation over how they’d divide their assets if they ever do end their marriage. Here’s what we know about Cardi and Offset’s rumored prenup.

Offset and Cardi B have had a whirlwind relationship, with plenty of highs and lows. The couple went on their first date in February 2017, only to announce that Cardi B was pregnant in July. They went on to tie the knot in secret in September 2017, and their daughter, Kulture, was born the following July.
However, shortly after their Kulture’s arrival, Offset was exposed for cheating on Cardi B after video footage showing him in bed with other women from December 2017 and January 2018 was published.
Though Cardi stayed with Offset through the first wave of rumors, she eventually announced they broke up in December 2018.
“It’s nobody fault. I guess we grew out of love but we are not together anymore,” she explained in a video posted to Instagram. “I don’t know, it might take time to get a divorce and I’m going to always have a lot of love for him because he is my daughter’s father.”
However, it didn’t take the couple long to reconcile, as they were back on within two months.
Nevertheless, Offset and Cardi B hit another rough patch in September 2020, when the singer officially filed for divorce. It was unclear at the time what prompted Cardi to file, though she referred to their marriage as “irretrievably broken” in the court documents.
Despite this being the second time the pair were close to ending their marriage, Offset and Cardi B reconciled the following month. In June 2021, they announced they were expecting baby no. 2, and seem happier than ever.

There’s been a lot of curiosity about why Cardi chose to go back to Offset, despite almost divorcing twice. There’s speculation that money was a motivating factor.
Offset has a reported net worth of $28 million, while Cardi B is worth $80 million. Cardi is worth almost three times more than her husband, so she has a lot to lose financially if they go through with a divorce, especially if there’s no prenup in place.
Neither Offset nor Cardi have addressed whether they signed a prenup before tying the knot. They also got married within a few months of knowing each other, shortly after Cardi became pregnant. Given the rushed nature of their union, they may have not taken the time to negotiate a prenup.

They could’ve signed a post-nuptial agreement – which functions like a prenup, but is signed after the wedding is legally officiated. But there’s even more evidence that the duo don’t have either type of agreement.
It was telling when Cardi filed for divorce in September 2020 and requested an “equitable division of all marital assets.” This suggests there’s no pre-existing agreement in place for how to divide assets in case of a break-up.
At the time, the “Bodak Yellow” singer was also seeking full custody of their daughter and requesting child support from her estranged husband. She also wanted him to fully cover her legal expenses.
If they have no prenup, Cardi may be forced to split half of her wealth with Offset. One report said he could walk away with $50 million if their marriage ended. But the division of their assets would vary depending on what state they got divorced in.
“In the event that Cardi B and Offset in fact divorce, she may not have to pay him half of her fortune,” entertainment lawyer Desiree Talley said in 2020. “Assuming New York law applies, the court will follow the equitable distribution laws of the state. Equitable distribution does not necessarily mean half. It means fair.”
Fans were surprised when Cardi B and Offset reconciled within a month of her filing for divorce. At the time, the couple didn’t provide much of an explanation.
But Cardi opened up about the subject earlier this year, and explained why she took her estranged husband back. The singer denies it had anything to do with their finances.
“Me and Offset, we was not seeing eye to eye. This was like the same year that I filed for divorce and everything,” Cardi said during an appearance on The Jason Less Show in January. “[But] he changed, and it showed me that he wanted to change for me,” she went on.
With Offset and Cardi B’s tumultuous history, it remains to be seen if their marriage will last. But for now, the parents-of-two don’t seem to be satisfied with their relationship.
